HORNELL – David A. (Strickarz) Starz, 67, died peacefully Friday (Dec. 30, 2022) at his home on Pleasant Street.
Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on Oct. 11, 1955 he was a son of the late John and Helen (Pipik) Strickarz. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister, Helen A. “Babe” Strickarz, one brother, Henry J. Strickarz; his wife, Ethel Lol-Strickarz and a brother-in-law, Raymon Loh.
A graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, NJ, and Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, Dave retired as a Building-Trades teacher at Steuben-Allegany GST BOCES in Hornell.
He was a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post, No. 440 in Hornell as a Sons of the American Legion and served as a Commander for many years. Dave was also a member of the AM Vets Post No. 243 in Hornell as a Son and was a past Commander and currently serving as the Treasurer.
A member of the Board of Directors of the Hornell Association, he was also a member of the Cpl. J.J. Mooney VFW Post No. 2250, the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364, the Hornell Council No 243, Knights of Columbus, the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210 and a member of the auxiliary of the Robert N. Austin Unit No. 1279 in Campbell, NY.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Marjorie Wilson-Starz; one son, Daemian (Kari Cappluzzi) Friedman; one granddaughter, Katie (Sean) Fitzpatrick; two great-grandsons, Bryce and Gavin Fitzpatrick; his in-laws, Eileen and Leon Fontier, Philip and Phyllis Wilson, Rosie Travis, Marietta and Jim Piersons, Bob and Karen Wilson, Nancy and Shawn Bedient; also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends.

There will be a celebration of Dave’s life from 1-5 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 8, 2023) at the Hornell American Legion, 72 Seneca St.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Arc of Allegany-Steuben, 1 Arc Way, Bath, NY 14810. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the Hornell American Legion.
