Danny “Dan” Lawrence Lacy

Danny “Dan” Lawrence Lacy

ARKPORT – It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Danny “Dan” Lawrence Lacy, 75, of (Arkport, NY) on July 29th, 2023. He passed away at St. James Hospital in Hornell after a battle with cancer.

Dan was born on February 4, 1948, at St. Joseph Hospital to Harold and Betty (Shup) Lacy in Orange, California. He grew up in a very large and loving family who, early on, relocated to Newport Beach. As a youth, Dan spent time at the beach as often as he could with his family and friends. After 12 years, the family then relocated to Palm Springs, where Dan attended and graduated from Palm Springs High School. He joined the Army in 1968 and proudly served for 2 years before being honorably discharged in 1970. Following his time in the Army, he joined the pipefitters union (Local 342) and pursued a career in welding that spanned 48 years. Along the way, Dan was able to share the knowledge and experience from his career with his oldest son, Nicholas, who continues to represent proudly today.

Dan came to know Christ later in life and fully embraced a life of redemption, forgiveness, and eternal life. If Dan wasn’t helping the congregation by mowing the church grounds, plowing the neighbors out of a big snowfall, or helping with projects, he could be found spending most of his time outdoors or with family. He was very passionate about nature! In his younger years, he enjoyed body surfing at the beach. And, he continued that love of nature by planting and preserving trees, fishing, hunting, and chopping firewood for the winter. He also enjoyed spending time working on his classic Chevy Flatbed hot rod. Even if simply taking a hike, you could always count on him being outside, and one with nature. His passion for nature was only surpassed by his love for his family.

Dan was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, Rod (Beaker).

He is survived by his oldest son Nicholas (Jelena) Lacy (grandchildren: Conor, Mila, and Ava), his youngest son Kalin (Jessica) Lacy (grandchildren: Ethan, Alexia, Bryson and Payton), and his 2 sisters, Debbie and Joni.

At Dan’s request, he was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Arkport, NY at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30th. Following the service, please join us at 2:00 p.m. (at 8687 Jersey Hill Road, Canaseraga, NY 14822) as we scatter his ashes. All are invited and welcome to attend both events.

The family would like to thank Roswell Park, Guthrie Corning Cancer Center, and St. James Hospital for taking extra special care of Dan during his treatments. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the First Presbyterian Church in Dan’s honor.
