ALMOND-Cathleen Ann McLaughlin,74, of Crescent Place, passed away early Wednesday afternoon (March 16, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Fillmore, NY on Sept. 20, 1947 she was the daughter of the late Francis and Emily Jean (Drury) McCarthy.
A graduate of Fillmore Central School, Cathy received an associate degree form Corning Community College. She resided in Hornell for 20 years before moving to Almond in 1999.
Throughout the years she was employed at Steuben Trust Company and the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell. For about 20 years she was employed at the Hornell Area Family YMCA and retired from Arkport Central School.
She attended St. Brendan’s Church in Almond and St. Ann’s Church in Hornell and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. Cathy enjoyed spending time crocheting and knitting.
Her loving family includes her husband of 50 years, Martin J. “Marty” McLaughlin, who she married at St. Patrick’s Church in Fillmore, NY on Sept. 11, 1971; one sister-in-law, Mary Kathleen McFadden of Coshocton, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Kevin (Elizabeth) McLaughlin of Avon Lake, Ohio; four nieces, Molly (Craig) Hughes, Katherine (Paul) Richter, Colleen (Scott) Philabaum and Erin McFadden; as well as several cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday (March 24, 2022). Committal prayers and interment will take place at Bath National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
