CATHERINE M. “KATE” ROHAN
HORNELL-Catherine M. “Kate” Rohan, 85, of 35 Pine St., passed away early Tuesday morning (Feb. 5, 2008) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in Binghamton on March 25, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Helen Murray Cullen. On Oct. 28, 1944 she was married at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell to Robert Rohan, who predeceased her on April 5, 2002 after 58 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Alger and her two brothers, James Cullen and Jack Cullen.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Kate was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School.
She enjoyed her employment as a licensed practical nurse for 20 years at the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell before retiring in 1985.
Kate was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church. She was also a member of the St. Ann’s School Alumni Assoc., the Hornell High School Alumni Assoc. and a former member of the Ladies of Columbus.
A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be remembered for being a very charitable person who willingly shared her time and energy with others.
Her family includes her son, Michael (Maralee) Rohan of Rochester; her two daughters, Elizabeth Pelych (Lou Ilges) and Joanne (William) Hogan all of Hornell; her five grandchildren, Angela (Jessie) Rutherford of Texas, Jacob (Stephanie) Rohan of Rochester, Kelly (Isaac) Bancroft of North Carolina, Luke Rohan and Erin Hogan both of Rochester; her three great-grandchildren, Madeline and Natalie Rutherford and Grace Bancroft; her brother, Dennis Cullen of Virginia Beach, Va.; her four sisters, Mary Ann (Harris) Walters of Ft. Worth, TX., Therese (Nelson) Parks of Florida, Sister Joan Cullen, RSM and Helen Marie Cullen both of Rochester; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ignatius Loyola Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at the Bath National Cemetery.
