Carolyn Sue Bly
YUCAIPA, CA/ARKPORT-Carolyn Sue Bly, 77, of Yucaipa, CA, formerly of Arkport, passed away Tuesday morning (Nov. 2, 2021) at the Silver Care Home in Loma Linda, CA. She fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and will be missed by her family and friends.
Born in Hornell on Dec. 27, 1943, Sue was the daughter of the late Maynard and Alberta (Wentworth) Ramsay. On Feb. 19, 1966 she was married to Robert “Bob” E Bly at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Bob predeceased her on Feb. 11, 2012 after 46 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brother Bruce Ramsay, son, SFC William D. Bly and grandson, Alexander James Crissy.
Sue was a former resident of Staten Island, NY where she graduated from high school. She attended St. James School of Nursing in Hornell and was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the former Bethesda Community Hospital, the Dansville Hospital, and Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital.
Sue resided in Arkport since 1966 where she and Bob created a home and raised their family. She moved to Livonia, NY several years ago to reside with her daughter, Ellen and most recently resided in Yucaipa, CA with her son, Robert.
Her loving family includes son, Robert E. (Corrie) Bly, Jr. of Yucaipa, CA; daughter, Ellen (William) Batzel of Livonia, NY; 9 grandchildren, 7 great grand-children; three brothers, Paul (Maureen) Ramsay of Manassas, VA, Craig (Jackie) Ramsay of Murfreesboro, TN, and Leigh (Angelina) Ramsay of Poway, California; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sue loved making jam, crocheting hanging towels, walking her dogs and having bonfires. She loved spending time with her family & friends and was always there to help out her neighbors. She loved her yearly trips to Florida to see her best friend Chris Wellington, whom she had known for over 40 years.
The family will greet relative and friends from noon-1 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 4, 2021) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. A committal service and interment will follow at Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport. After the services at the cemetery, beginning at 2 p.m., everyone is invited to join the family at Barbara Jean Country, 108 West Ave., Arkport for a luncheon.
