HORNELL/COHOCTON-Betsy Jo Nichols, 42, formerly of Cohocton, entered into rest early Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18, 2008) at her home at 263 Canisteo St. in Hornell after losing her courageous fight with cancer.
Born in the Town of Urbana on Feb. 14, 1966, she was a daughter of Leon R. Wagner, who predeceased her on Nov. 14, 2003 and Joyce E. Murphy Wagner, who survives.
Betsy graduated from Cohocton Central School where she was a member of the soccer team and served as a majorette and played the flute for the band. She received an associate’s degree from Corning Community College and upon graduation she received the Professional Secretary Award for attaining the highest grade average for her graduation class.
Before her recent employment with Delco in Hornell, she was employed at Alstom also in Hornell.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Hornell.
Betsy will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Besides her mother, Joyce of Cohocton, her family includes her two sons, Jacob Tyler Nichols, age 12 of Savona and Jesse Christopher Wagner, age 5, of Hornell; her sister, Kellie Sue (Rick) Zimmerman of Walton, NY; her niece, Lindsey Jo Contello; her nephew, Eric Zimmerman; her step niece, Krystal Zimmerman and her daughter, Keelie; her step nephew, Rickey Zimmerman; her two great nieces, Gabriella Contello and Natalie Contello; also her aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral service will be held in Betsy’s memory following calling hours at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Sande Thomas, pastor of the Avoca United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Mapleview Cemetery, Cohocton.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the Avoca United Methodist Church, Jacobs Ladder Rd., Avoca, NY 14809, the Free Methodist Church, 60 Washington St., Hornell, NY 14843 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
