AUSTIN L. BRIGGS

ARKPORT-Austin L. Briggs, 61, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning (Sept. 21, 2012) at his home on Briggs Road.
Born in Hornell on March 8, 1951, he was a son of the late Leo and Leila (McGrosso) Briggs.
A resident of Arkport for most of his life, Austin was a graduate of Arkport Central School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the Military Police at Ft. Gordon in Georgia, Ft. Dix in New Jersey, as well as in Vietnam from Jan. 1972 until his honorable discharge in March of 1973.
He was self employed as a dairy farmer, and along with his brother, Henry Briggs, they owned and operated L.H. Briggs, Inc. in Arkport.
Austin was a member of the Arkport Memorial American Legion Post and was a sports enthusiast who also enjoyed hunting and golfing. He will be remembered most of all for the love he had for his children and grandchildren.
His family includes his three children, Erik (Julie) Briggs of Arkport, Alice Briggs of Sebastopol, Ca. and ElizabethBriggs (Joseph Salkaus) of Farmington, N.H.; his four grandchildren, Erin and Justin Briggs of Arkport and Isabella and Rhome D’Amico of Sebastopol, Ca.; his brother, Henry (Signe) Briggs of Arkport; his sister, Rebecca (Henry) Hedden of Pennsylvania; his companion, Grace Kruzinski of Arkport; also his two aunts and nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet his family at Heritage Hill Cemetery in Arkport where a graveside service, with military honors, will be held in his memory at 3 p.m. Wednesday (September 26, 2012) with the Rev. Steven Jewell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Arkport Memorial American Legion Post.
