ANNE L. LOCKER
NORTH HORNELL/CORNING-Anne L. Locker, 86, formerly of Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, passed away late Monday evening (May 16, 2011) in Corning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina Locker and her grandsons, Robert and Sean Locker, who have cared for her the past seven years.
Born in Hornell on June 1, 1924, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Pokrawaska Sydelko. On Nov. 4, 1944 she was married in St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to Ralph S. Locker, who predeceased her on Feb. 14, 1994 after 50 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son Thomas in 1985; her infant brother, Stanley Sydelko, her brother, Peter Sydelko and her sisters, Tess Prince and Jennie Tsibulsky.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Anne was a graduate of Hornell High School.
She assisted her husband in the operation of the former Locker’s Cleaners in the area of the former Hotel Sherwood in Hornell from 1955 to 1963. Later she became employed with the former Big N, K Mart and Nichols in Hornell, for Brae Burn Country Club in Dansville, for Alfred State College and more recently for Wegmans in Hornell.
Anne was well known throughout the Hornell community for being a very talented seamstress, which was evident in the beautiful wedding gown she made for her daughter-in-law, Christina.
A communicant of St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell, Anne enjoyed gardening, collecting seashells, cooking, baking and in her later years she loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cheryl Locker of Hornell, Robert and Christina Locker of Corning, Timothy and Donna Locker of Hebron, KY; her nine grandchildren, Kimberly Locker of Hornell, Christine Locker of Hornell, Thomas Locker of Florida, James (Lori) Locker of Rochester, Nathan Locker of Hornell, Robert Locker II of Corning, Brittany Locker of Hebron, KY, Sean Locker of Corning and Timothy Locker of Hebron, KY; her eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Joanne (Fred) Campbell of North Hornell; also her nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
