ALISON BORNHAUSER MATTICE
HORNELL-Alison Bornhauser Mattice, 71, passed away unexpectedly Monday (May 16, 2011) at her home on Sunset Road.
Born in Stamford, Conn. on Sept. 3, 1939 she was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Heidroth Bornhauser. On Jan. 18, 1964 she was married at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Stamford, Conn. to Gary L. Mattice, who predeceased her on Sept. 23, 2003 after 39 years of marriage.
A graduate of Stamford High School, Alison also graduated from the University of Connecticut and attended Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
She was a former resident of Norwich and Auburn and has resided in Hornell since 1968. While residing in Norwich she was employed as the YMCA-Hi-Y Club Program Director and as a social worker for Chenago County. From 1970 to 1973 she was employed as a unit manager at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell and for over 30 years she served as an election inspector for the City of Hornell.
Alison was involved with the Hornell Little League Baseball from 1968 to 1980 and in 1988 she served with the Hall of Fame. Since 1979 she has been a member and served as a quarter master for the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Brigade of the American Revolution.
An avid collector of various items, she also enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafts.
Her family includes her brother, Charles Bornhauser of Missouri ; her sister,
Beverly (Robert) Smith of Ohio ; also her two nieces, one nephew and several great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in her memory on Thursday (June 16) at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford, Conn.
