Alice F. Robinson

Alice F. Robinson

Alice Francis Jackson Robinson, 82, of Avoca, NY, departed this life on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Alice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, most especially her loving family and close friends. Alice lived a quiet small-town life centered and focused on her family.

Alice was born in St. Augustine, Florida on January 13, 1939, to Mary Lou Riles-Jackson and Elijah Jackson. She was the youngest of seven children and had a simple but idyllic childhood life in the south growing up as a tomboy, always trying to hang out with the older siblings. Alice moved to New York in the 1950s and met George Wesley Robinson. Alice and George married when she was 18 years old and lived in Prattsburgh, NY and Howard, NY before settling on Grant Street in Avoca, NY in 1969. Alice, known as the neighborhood “mom” and “grandma” gave birth to seven girls, one of whom, Georgette, died in infancy. Alice and George raised six girls, Beverly, Kimberly, Helene, Susan, Bonnie, and Michele. Sadly, George succumbed to a cancer illness in 1977. To help support her daughters, Alice held jobs at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath, NY as both a C.N.A. and in housekeeping. Upon retirement from the hospital, she worked as a home health aide for many years. Alice was proud of the fact that all six daughters graduated from high school and attended post high school education.

Alice loved reading romances, mysteries, and the local newspapers. She enjoyed watching westerns and old Perry Mason shows. Alice was proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments in school and athletics and would attend their games and assemblies to show her support. In recent years, Alice’s great grandsons, Christopher Ashton Chaplin and Randall Laverne Russell III brought great joy to her life. She was thrilled about her great granddaughter-to-be, due in April 2022. Alice was a long-time member of the Avoca United Methodist Church, often attending with her friend Ruth Ostrander.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lou Riles-Jackson and Elijah Jackson; her husband, George W. Robinson; her sister, Ella Louise; her brothers, Alec, Roosevelt, Johnnie, James and Nathieo; her daughters, Susan Johndro, Joyce Jackson, and Georgette Robinson and her best friend, Jean Robords.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Tucker of Brooklyn, NY, Annie Ruth Robinson of Florida; daughters, Beverly Robinson (Christopher) of Hempstead, NY, Kimberly Morris (William) of Cohocton, NY, Helene Robinson of Long Island and Avoca, NY, Bonnie Robinson (Al) of Arkport, NY, Michele Robinson-McGill (Ron) of Horseheads, NY, her son-in-law, Richard Johndro; her grandchildren, Christopher G. Chaplin (Ashley), Khalif Chaplin, Jenn Jones (Brenda), Dakota LaFrance, Wesley McGill, and Eboni McGill; her great grandchildren, Christopher A. Chaplin and Randall L. Russell, III; a host of beloved nephews and nieces and extended family in New York and Florida.

Calling hours are Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Avoca United Methodist Church from 4:00-8:00 pm where a funeral service will be held FRIDAY, November 26, 2021 at 11 am. Following the service, Alice will be laid to rest next to her husband, George W. Robinson, at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, N.Y.
