ALICE E. KINNEY
AVOCA-Alice E. Kinney, 91, passed away early Sunday morning (Jan. 8, 2012) at her home on the Loucks Pond Road.
Born in River DeChute, Maine on May 3, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George and Vaida Fuller Clark. On Apr. 16, 1940 she was married in Maine to Ralph D. Kinney, who predeceased her on March 15, 1983 after nearly 43 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Ronald Kinney, her great-grandson, Noah Christopher Lathrop; her three sisters, Helen Smith and Glenna Dudley both of Connecticut and Blanche Whitehouse of Bangor, Maine; her two brothers Glenwood Clark of Connecticut and Walter Clark of Easton, Maine; her step mother, Annie Thompson Clark and her step great-grandchild, Bobby Monacelli.
A former resident of Easton, Maine, Alice attended school there and has resided in Avoca since 1949 where she and her husband previously owned and operated a potato farm on Jacobs Ladder Road.
She was employed as a nurses’ aide in private homes as well as at the Steuben County Infirmary in Bath.
Alice was an active member of the Avoca Baptist Church where she was a member of the Encourager Club and she also attended the Wallace Wesleyan Church. She was also a former member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary and the Howard and Avoca Home Bureau.
She will be remembered for her very caring nature, her gracious hospitality and for always being concerned about everyone.
Her family includes her four sons, Sheldon (Sandy) Kinney of McAlisterville, Pa., Roger (Mary) Kinney of Adams, N.Y., Alan (Maryanne) Kinney of Painted Post, N.Y. and L. David (Brenda) Kinney of Hammondsport, N.Y.; her five daughters, Helen (David) Margeson, Joyce (Stanford) Lyke, Sharon (Phillip) Margeson all of Avoca, Bernice (Jim) Piazza of Strongville, Ohio and Susan (Bill) Keck of Dayton, Ohio; her 15 grandchildren, Karl (Bonnie) Margeson, Lois (Bill) Clarkson, Kevin (Lori) Lyke, Cindy Lyke, Cheryl Lewis, Bob Lewis, Shara Kinney, Denise (Kevin) Wyszkowski, Darlene (James) Shull, Debra (Steven) French, Delinda Kinney, Steven (Rebecca) Kinney, Ben Kinney, Laura Lathrop and Michelle Keck; her four step grandchildren, Shelby (Audra) Sieber, Dawn Margeson, Diane (Joe) Difranco and Donna (Brian) Patterson; her 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her one sister, Inez Gordon of Sanborn N.Y. ; also her many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St. Avoca. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Avoca Baptist Church, 1 Church St., Avoca, with Pastor Bill McFeaters of the Avoca Baptist Church and Pastor Bill Spencer of the Wallace Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
