Alan L. Hurd
ANDOVER-Alan L. Hurd, 63, of Pingrey Hill Road, Andover, formerly of Hornell, passed away peacefully, Friday (Sept. 21, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Orange County, Fla. on Jan. 18, 1955, he was a son of the late Norman and Marlene (Dingwell) Hurd. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his step-father, Jerry Walsh, Sr.
A former resident of Hornell, Alan attended Hornell High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps for six months before his medial discharge.
He has resided at his home in Andover since 2003 and was employed as a Certified Welding Inspector for several pipelines, Dresser-Rand, Alstom and Foster-Wheeler.
Alan was a member of the Hornell Am Vets Post No. 245 and the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legon Post No. 440 in Hornell.
He was involved with Civil War and Rendezvous Re-enactments and enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fly fishing and riding and showing off his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and he especially loved to spend time with his family and friends.
His loving family includes his wife, Valarie Gregory Hurd, who he married on Sept. 28, 2013 at the Angelica Civil War Event; six children, Mindi (Michael) DuBrey of Baldwinsville, Dakota Hurd of Canisteo, Kevin Gregory of Puyallup, Wash., Rebecca, Jillian and Lisette Gregory all of Andover; four grandchildren; three brothers, David (Laurie) Hurd of South Canisteo, Brett (Katrina) Hurd of Canisteo, William “Billy†(Barbara) Dingwell of South Canisteo; two sisters, Patricia Thompson of Hornell and Deborah (Richard) Reid of Michigan; also his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 26, 2018) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 27, 2018). Interment will follow at the Northrup Hill Cemetery, Cameron Mills.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Am Vets Post No. 245, 28 Broadway, Hornell, N.Y. 14843 or to the A.E. Crandall Hook & Ladder, 5 S. Main St., Alfred, N.Y. 14802. Enveloped for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
